Intensity of cell-free •OH formation/scavenging by asbestos, glass wool, MWCNT LNL1 , MWCNT LT , MWCNT SP , MWCNT LNL2 , MWCNT SNP , and carbon black in buffer, buffer with BSA, medium and medium with BSA as compared with respective controls. The order of the materials is according to level of •OH formation/scavenging in buffer. Columns represent the peak surface, i.e. area under curve (AUC), obtained by double integration of the DMPO peaks induced by the materials (AUCmaterial) after subtracting that of the control (AUCcontrol; ±SD). Statistically significant changes and differences are indicated by an asterisk (P < 0.05).
