Spatial uniformity of droplet deposition. Measurement of (dry) NaCl mass (proportional to droplet mass) deposited on 12 aluminum foils (3 × 3 cm2) placed in the exposure chamber (see insert) after nebulization of 1 mL of a 10% NaCl solution in the ALICE. Droplets enter the chamber from the left and the droplet depleted air exits through the right hand side. The data are presented as relative difference from the mean deposited mass on each foil (n = 4) and the variability about the mean. The average of these mean values is 0% (per definition) and the variability of the mean values (spatial uniformity) is 1.6% (dashed lines). Since this is identical to the estimated measurement uncertainty, the data indicate uniform particle deposition across the exposure chamber.
