Carbon loading of alveolar macrophages (AM) from uninfected mice exposed to 2× doses of 500 μg ultrafine-carbon black (UF-CB) in 50 μL phosphate buffered saline. Bronchoalveolar lavage was performed 72 h after the second dose on day 4. Carbon loading was assessed semi-quantitatively as described in Methods. Data are from 10 animals. Bar represents mean.
