Macrophage survival in 2D and 3D cultures. 2D and 3D BMDM cultures were exposed to 0.05 μg/ml (0.038 μg/cm2), 0.5 μg/ml (0.38 μg/cm2), 5 μg/ml (3.8 μg/cm2) and 10 μg/ml (7.6 μg/cm2) of carbon black, asbestos fibers or MWCNTs. Total DNA content was used as a measure of cell number. Bars represent the mean ± SD of three separate determinations, *p < 0.05.
