Examples of H&E stained sections obtained from control (A,C,E) or nanoparticle-exposed mice (B,D,F) at 48 hrs post-inhalation exposure. Arrows highlight the darker brown staining reflecting greatly increased nanoparticle burden observed in alveolar macrophages in treated groups compared to controls. The increase in nanoparticle-laden macrophages observed within the primary bronchus of exposed animals is also highlighted in panel F. (Panels A, B, E and F: 200×; Panels C, D: 400×).
