Inhaled silica particles rapidly induce DNA damage in mice. Pathogen-free mice (6 mice in each group) were exposed by intranasal instillation to silica (25 μg silica suspended in 25 μl PBS /mouse) and for times indicated or to PBS (for 10 or 120 min). a, c Lung tissue was homogenized in RIPA buffer.
