Fig. 9

Expression of genes related to inflammation and redox responses after combined exposure to DEPB0 and stone particles. HBEC3-KT cells were exposed to 25 μg/mL (2.6 μg/cm2) DEPB0 alone or in combination with 200 μg/mL (21.1 μg/cm2) α-quartz, anorthosite, rhomb porphyry or quartz diorite for 12 h. The expression of CXCL8 (A), IL-1β (B), IL-1α (C), COX-2 (D) and HO-1 (E), CYP1A1 (F) and CYP1B1 (G) was determined using qPCR. Results are expressed as fold change compared to unexposed cells and presented as boxplots of 5 independent experiments (Box: 25th–75th percentile, whiskers: minimum and maximum values, line: median, +: mean). Statistically significant differences were determined using two-way repeated measures ANOVA followed by Dunnett’s and Šídák's post-tests and are calculated from normalized CT values. *Statistically significant difference from the respective control at 0 μg/mL mineral particles. #Statistically significant difference between exposure groups
