J774.A1 macrophages (red, transparent volume rendering) containing intracellular NH 2 PEG QDs (green, surface rendering), visualized by LSM and digital image restoration (IMARIS, Bitplane AG, Switzerland). The arrow indicates a small agglomerate of intracellular QDs. However, considering the scales of magnification and the high amount of QDs present per vesicles as shown in figures 4 and 5, it can be concluded that a single detected particle event by LSM usually correspond to a high number of particles detected by TEM. Scale bar equates to 10 μm.
