Lysosomal damage, cathepsin B release and IL-1β production in THP-1 cells. THP-1 cells were incubated with 50 μg/mL CoO or La2O3 nanoparticles for 6 h. Then cells were stained with Magic Red-labeled cathepsin B substrate and visualized by confocal microscopy (a).
