Normalized delivered dose (dose per surface area or mass of lung/tissue) and not exposure plays the pivotal role for derivation of human exposure limits from toxicological inhalation studies. The main factors influencing conversion of PSP aerosol exposure concentration into (lung-) delivered dose are depicted for animal inhalation experiments and factors relevant for extrapolation of No or Low Observed Adverse Effect Levels (NOAEL/LOAEL) from animal models to humans are highlighted
